Purpose – To evaluate the efficacy of occlusion therapy in patients with amblyopia
Methods – Retrospective analysis of the patients who were given occlusion therapy for amblyopia in last 5 years (Jan 2011 – Dec 2016), with a minimum follow-up period of 3 months.
Results – Out of total 267 patients, 170 (63.7%) were male and were 97 (36.3%) female. Mean age of the patient was 9.6 +/-5.6 years (2-38 years). Out of 267 patients 94 (35.2%) did not complete a minimum of 3 months of follow-up. Mean visual acuity before giving occlusion therapy was 0.44+/-0.4 logMAR, while mean visual acuity after giving occlusion therapy was 0.29 +/- 0.30 logMAR. The gain in visual acuity was 0.14 +/-0.26 logMAR, and this difference was statistically significant (p=0.000)
Conclusion – 5 year study showed a significant improvement in the visual acuity after giving occlusion therapy.
