Purpose: To identify factors affecting final VA after penetrating ocular trauma. Materials and Methods: 32 cases of ruptured globe who attented a RIO between Aug 2016 to Dec 2016 examined. Time of presentation, mechanism of injury (sharp/blunt/missile), initial VA, wound location and length, presence of intraocular FB, perforating /non-perforating , performance of vitrectomy noted & followed up for 3 months. Results: Predictors of good final VA( ≥20/60) were presenting VA of ≥20/200, wound location ant to plane of insertion of the four recti, wound length ≤10mm and injury with sharp objects. Vitrectomy did not improve final VA but decreased likelihood of enucleation(5 cases had to be enucleated). Histopathologic review showed fibrous ingrowth in 93% of eyes enucleated> 14 days after injury, none of those enucleated within 2 weeks. Conclusion: Significant predictive factors of final VA after penetrating trauma include VA, wound location and length & injury by sharp object.
