Purpose: To study the performance of Multifocal Intra Ocular Lenses (MFIOL) in bilateral cataract patients.
Methods: One hundred and sixty patients with senile cataract were assigned to have bilateral implantation of MFIOL (Aurovue Dfine, Aurolab). Clinical outcomes included uncorrected & best corrected far & near visual acuity (VA), contrast sensitivity (CS) and depth of focus. Spectacle independence and visual disturbances were also evaluated.
Results: At 6 months follow up, 95.3% of the patients had UCDVA 6/6p or better and 99% of the patients had N6 uncorrected near VA. CS outcomes were comparable with other leading MFIOL in the market under photopic conditions & slightly better in mesopic conditions. 95% patients were spectacle independent.
Conclusion: Our MFIOL provides good spectacle independence with better CS under mesopic conditions.
