Purpose: To investigate therapeutic efficacy of lutein and meso- zeaxanthine on improvement of central retinal function in early ARMD. Materials and Methods: prospective study of 10 eyes of 10 patients with earlyARMD who attended eye OPD between Sep 2016 to Oct 2016. In 5 patients, lutein 10mg and meso-zeaxanthine 10mg OD was given orally. In rest 5,placebo treatment was applied and followed up at the end of 6months. Thorough ocular examination along with VA, fundoscopy and posterior segment OCT were done at follow up visit and compared with baseline value. Results: Mean age group of 10 patients were 55.5±10.5. In treated group mean visual improvement was 2 lines in Snellen’s chart whereas in placebo group, no improvement in lines. Mean central retinal thickness was reduced in treated group. The difference was statistically significant (P=0.03). No complications noted. Conclusion: Lutein and mesozeaxanthine supplementation improves the central retinal function in early ARMD.
