Purpose:To compare optical quality of 3 multifocal IOLs using wavefront analysis and modulation transfer function(MTF).Methods:Prospective comparative study of 78 eyes of 39 patients. 3 groups of 26 eyes in each implanted bilaterally with following multifocal IOLs1)Tecnis Symfony IOL 2)AT LISA Trifocal IOL 3)Tecnis multifocal IOL. Wavefront analysis, MTF curve obtained at 2 weeks& 3 months postoperatively by iTrace aberrometer.Aberrations measured upto 6th Zernike order for 4mm pupil.Results:Mean MTF value for IOLs was 0.345±0.170(Tecnis),0.295±0.154(Trifocal),0.273±0.168(Symfony). Mean total higher order RMS values were 0.341±0.28(Tecnis),2.05±1.94(Trifocal)&1.91±1.40(Symfony).No significant difference found in MTF,higher order aberrations were more in Trifocal &Symfony compared to Tecnis.Conclusion:In our study,contrast transferred for 4mm pupil was similar for Tecnis,Symfony&Trifocal IOL.Wavefront assessment showed lower values of spherical aberration with the multifocal IOL Tecnis
