Purpose-To report a case of Avellino Dystrophy in India.
Methods-A 51 year, female, presented with diminution of vision in both eyes since 1 year. She had history of irregular use of spectacle with no comfort. She was also a patient of Type 2 DM and hypertension from 22 years. Visual Acuity, Slit lamp examination was done of the patient.
Results- Unaided visual acuity in the RE was 6/60 improving to 6/24(p) and 6/36 improving to 6/24(p) with pinhole. Slit lamp examination of the anterior segment revealed the presence of anterior stromal dystrophic changes of the cornea in both eyes. The dystrophic changes were discrete, stromal grey, granular deposits arranged in a linear fashion in the center of the cornea with anterior corneal haze.
Conclusion-Avellino Dystrophy, an autosomal dominant condition,consists of discrete anterior stromal grey white granular deposits, stromal lattice lesions and anterior stromal haze.It can be managed by Penetrating keratoplasty or hypertonic saline.
