AIM: To determine whether LDL to HDL ratio is associated with retinal vein occlusion (RVO).METHODS: All cases with RVO seen between May 2016 and April 2017 were included in the study. Fundoscopic examination with detailed medical history was followed by complete blood analyses including lipid profile. Data were compared with those of the control group under follow up for refractive errors. RESULTS: 34 cases of BRVO and 20 cases of CRVO were studied, compared with equal no of controls. Prevalence of hypertension (BRVO p<0.05), LDL HDL ratio were significantly higher in the RVO group as compared to control (p<0.05). CONCLUSION: Altered LDL HDL ratio is an important etiological factor in both CRVO and BRVO; this can be correlated to the atherosclerotic cycle in vessel wall and can have high predictive value.
