Aim: To assess the accuracy of retinal acuity meter (RAM) in predicting postoperative visual outcome in cataract patients
Material and methods: Case records of cataract patients who underwent Retinal acuity meter were retrieved. Variable such as pre surgery RAM visual acuity (RAMVA) and post surgery best corrected distance visual acuity (BCDVA) was recorded.
Results: 128 eyes with mean (SD) age of 62.28±8.62 years included. Median (IQR) of RAMVA 0.176 (0.097, 0.398) was significantly different than BCDVA 0.18 (0, 0.18) (p<0.001). Within +/- 0.1 logMAR difference, RAMVA and BCDVA were similar in 43 eyes, in 64 eyes RAMVA was underestimated whereas in 15 eyes it was overestimated as compared to BCDVA. Within +/- 0.2 logMAR difference, RAMVA and BCDVA were similar in 78 eyes, in 38 eyes RAMVA underestimated whereas in 6 eyes it overestimated the BCDVA. Conclusion: Accuracy of RAM to predict post operative visual acuity to +/- 0.1 and +/- 0.2 logmar was 34% and 61% respectively.
