Aim: The aim of this study is to emphasize upon the importance of detailed slit lamp examination in classifying the various types of posterior polar cataracts (PPC), and identifying the more risky cases with a pre-existing posterior capsular defect (PCD)
Method- Study design-Prospective. All the cases with PPC were enrolled from Jan16 to Dec16. posterior polar cataract were classified according to the” Daljit Singh’s classification”
Results: Total PPC-67.Type 1 -22, Type 2-31, Type 3- 1, Type 4- 13. In our study we have found that, the sharply defined round or oval white opacity with dense white spots at the edge are often associated with thin or absent PC. These dense white spots are a diagnostic sign (Daljit Singh sign) of posterior capsule leakage and extreme fragility.
Conclusion -So,a detailed slit lamp examination is important in identifying the more risky cases of PPC.Cases with posterior capsular defect should be dealt with extra caution and to be operated in a VR set up.
