A study of 200 cases of manual SICS done under 0.2cc subconjunct injection of 2% Lignocaine injected at the Incision site. It was found to be a very economical surgery as no infiltration anesthesia needed, also all surgeries were performed using AC maintainer and no viscoelastic agents were used.
Results: A total of 200 cases were done by the above method out of which only 12 patients needed supplemental intra cameral 1% lignocaine.
Conclusion: MSICS using 0.2cc Subconj. inj. of 2% lignocaine is a safe method of cataract surgery.
It can be used in camp surgeries as there is no need for infiltration anesthesia and reduces the need for extra manpower outside the OT.
Also as the surgery is done using AC maintainer the cost of using Viscoelastic agent as well as the complications of viscoelastic agents is reduced. More importantly there is no need to patch the eye post surgery as the effect of the anesthesia last for a short duration giving the patient almost a no patch surgery benefit.
