Aim : Pre eclampsia is characterized by high blood pressure, proteinuria along with ocular signs. This study was designed to evaluate subfoveal Choroidal thickness (SFCT) in pre-aclampsia and compare with that of pregnant as well as healthy women.
Method : A prospective study was done in a RIO in Eastern Odisha from Jan 2016 to Dec 2016. 54 healthy pregnant women and 48 pts with pre-eclampsia were recruited from OBG Dept. 54 normal healthy females also included. All were in reproductive age grp. BP measurement and ophthalmological evaluation done.SFCT was measured using enhanced-depth imaging optical coherence tomography.
Results : The mean SFCT of normal women, healthy pregnant women and pts with pre-eclampsia were 280.3±24.53, 290.56±27.10 and 375.65± 30.42 μm respectively. Mean gestational age was 32.4±4.8wk.SFCT decreased significantly 1 week after delivery in patients with pre-eclampsia.
Conclusion : Pre-eclampsia caused significant increase in SFCT as compared to normal pregnancy.
