Retinal Vein Occlusion (RVO) is the second commonest cause of reduced vision due to retinal vascular disease after diabetic retinopathy.Conditions predisposing to RVO are Diabetes Mellitus, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, smoking etc.
AIM: TO study the association between RVO and Serum Lipid profile as its risk factor.
MATERIALS & METHODS:A total of 120 pts (60 cases and 60 controls) were taken up for this study. All patients of RVO ( 30-90 years) were taken as cases; and controls were selected accordingly with proper matching.Thorough ocular examinations & routine blood tests with fbs, ppbs & lipid profile done.
RESULTS &DISCUSSION: positive correlations b/w Total cholesterol(mean 188±26.408 vs 145±17.760, p value 0.0014); TGL(143.3±31.727 vs 136.4±22.830); VLDL(mean 38.283±12.159 vs 30.01±6.947, p value 0.0001) with incidence of RVO was seen. No direct correlation were found b/w serum LDL & HDL cholesterol & RVO. Similar results were noted in Appiah et al & Spertudo et al study.
