In vivo assessment of microbial keratitis has become possible with anterior segment optical coherence tomography (AS-OCT).This modality provides cross-sectional scans of the cornea and assessment of the depth of inflammation with measurements of stromal infiltration thickness and corneal thickness in the infiltrated
area. When indicated, the area for corneal biopsy, decision on performing either lamellar or full-thickness penetrating keratoplasty can be made by examining the depth of infection on the ASOCT images.
Our study finds an effective way to monitor the treatment response and outcome of keratitis using a convenient non-invasive modality like AS-OCT instead of relying on conventional culture techniques and altering treatment, monitoring infiltrate depth and taking timely decisions based on its quantitative values over a period of time during the course of treatment, the clinician can have a good control over the disease
process along with slit lamp evaluation and correlation.
