VKH disease is an inflammatory disorder characterized by bilateral granulomatous panuveitis and extraocular manifestations. Here, we describe the presenting features, visual outcome, complications and recurrences of patient with VKH in a south Indian population. The exact role of immunosuppressive drugs in acute stage was analysed. 18 patients diagnosed as VKH in 2007-16 were evaluated retrospectively. 13 patients presented in the acute stage while five in the chronic phase. 6 Cases received steroid monotherapy (group 1) while 7 Cases received both steroids and immunosuppressive agents (group 2). Mean recurrence rate in Group 1 was 2,while that in Group 2 was 0.7 (P=0.006). In group 1 60% had multiple recurrences, while the same in group 2 was 30% (p=0.09). The incidence of serous retinal detachment as a marker of recurrence was higher in our Cases, than previously reported.
