Purpose: This study evaluates the result of corneal collagen cross-linking (CXL) with riboflavin and ultraviolet A irradiation in 6 eyes of 3 patients affected by Pellucid Marginal Degeneration (PMD) presented in our hospital from September 2016 to April 2017.
Methods: This study involved the prospective analysis of 6 eyes of 3 patients with PMD that underwent CXL treatment by Appassamy CXL Machine( Model : CL –UVR). Best Corrected Visual Acuity, Topography and Pachymetry were evaluated and compared at the end of 6 months.
Results: Topographic indices of the treated eyes did not show progression of disease. Pachymetry values showed no significant change. LogMAR Visual acuity has improved from from 0.53 to 0.35 during the 6 month follow up period after CXL treatment.
Conclusion: CXL is a safe and effective tool for the management of PMD, and it can help to stop the progression of this disease. But the limitation of our study is that we had a shorter follow up period.
