Purpose- To study the role of rescue treatment with anti-VEGF after epiretinal membrane (ERM) peeling in diabetic macular edema (DME).
Method- Prospective randomised study of 10 eyes treated for surgical removal of ERM in DME were analysed for treatment response with (n=5) or without (n=5) post-operative Anti-VEGF.
Results -Visual acuity and central macular thickness showed no significant improvement with anti-VEGF injections (p = 0.845, p = 0.676 respectively). Significant reduction in central macula thickness (p = 0.006) with ERM peeling did not translate to vision gain (p = 0.551).
Conclusions- Post ERM peeling anti-VEGF in DME doesn’t significantly reduce macular edema or improve vision.
