Aim:
To study the bacterial profile and sensitivity pattern in culture positive bacterial keratitis.
Methodology:
During the study period(Dec15-Nov16)all corneal ulcer patients were subjected to clinical examination,KOH,Gram’s stain and Culture-sensitivity.
Observation:
256 patients were bacterial culture positive. Among 142 gram positive bacteria,59.1%-streptococcus,21.1%-staphylococcus,11.2%-corynebacterium. Among 114 gram negative bacteria,69.3%-pseudomonas,7%-moraxella. Among Gram positive organisms,81.6% sensitive to fluoroquinolones,88.7% sensitive to 3rd generation cephalosporins. Among gram negative organisms,85.9% sensitive to fluoroquinolones,78.9% for aminoglycosides.
Conclusion:
Streptococcus is the commonest gram positive organism.Gram positive were most sensitive to 3rdgeneration cephalosporin.96% sensitive to vancomycin except staphylococcus, due to emergence of MRSA.Pseudomonas is the commonest gram negative organism.Gram negative were most sensitive to fluoroquinolones.
