A choroidal melanoma being managed depending upon their size site and stage with limited success rate. Surgical excision, radiotherapy or chemotherapy invariably failed to restore visual acuity. Gamma knife, LASER phtocoagulation and photodynamic therary have not shown promising results.
Anti malingnancy drug bevacizumab, widely being used to treat renal and colon cancer, is non toxic to intraocular tissues like vitreous, RPE and photoreceptors of retina including retinal vasculature while maintaining Anti VEGF property intact.
A 76 yrs old male patient of choroidal melanoma with vision HM was managed with Intra vitreal Bevacizumab. Progress was monitored on OCT jointly by ophthalmologist and oncologist. Highly active tumour at macula measuring diameter750 micron and height 1200 micron became inactive and reduced in size gradually. At the end of 6 months vision improved to 6/36 and tumour size reduced 400 micron X 450 micron. No recurrence after 4 yrs of follow up.
