Aim – To explore early optic nerve damage in OHT & POAG pt using VEP
Materials and Method – Prospective study conducted in RIO (Sept 2016 to Apr 2017).Checkerboard pattern reversal VEP were recorded from 15 OHT,18 POAG & 20 age-matched normals.Visual acuity was > 6/12 in each eye & pupil size was between 2-6mm diameter. 2 check sizes ( 12’ & 48’) & 2 alternation rates (1.71 & 7.2 alt/sec) were used. Contrast – 70%,full field size,pattern size 14*16 min,mean luminance of central field 50 cd/m2 & Background luminance 20-40 cd/m2.
Results-6 of 30 eyes(20%) with OHT were found to have visual field defect(VFD) whereas 16(53.33%) had abnormal VEP. 20 of 36eyes(55.55%) with POAG had VFD,whereas 16( 61.11% )had VEP abnormality.
Conclusion-Increased pattern VEP latency was positively correlated with VFD ,optic disc cupping but not IOP.VEP can identify some OHT pts at high risk OHT who require close monitoring and can identify preperimetric glaucoma pt.
