FP1585 : Comparative evaluation of clinical factors in OSSN patients with and without HIV infection

Purpose : To describe and compare the clinical presentation, treatment, and histopathologic features of OSSN based on HIV status.

Method : It is a Case-control study including 40 consecutive histologically proven patients with OSSN, of whom 20 (50%) had positive Results for HIV and were classified as Cases and 20 (50%) had negative Results for HIV and were classified as controls. The different treatment modalities used were conjunctival excision biopsy, extended enucleation, orbital exenteration.

Results : The mean age at presentation of OSSN in Cases was 42 years (range 19-77 years) and in controls was 52 years (range, 28-76 years). On comparison of Cases versus controls with OSSN, HIV-positive individuals had larger (6 vs 5 mm) tumors, with a higher incidence of corneal (65% vs. 55%), intraocular (20% vs 5%) and orbital (15% vs.5 %) invasion.

Conclusion : OSSN in HIV-positive individuals is aggressive with larger tumors and with higher incidence of corneal, intraocular, and orbital invasion.
