Aim : To report a Case of acute posterior multifocal placoid pigment epitheliopathy (APMPPE) in a patient with papillary carcinoma of thyroid.Method- A single Case report.
Results : A 46 yr old lady with thyroid nodule and mass in left posterior triangle of neck came with bilateral defective vision.Fundus revealed discrete yellow white lesions with neurosensory detachment.OCT revealed hyperreflectivity from the outer retinal layers and fluorescein angiogram showed early hypofluorescence corresponding to discrete lesions followed by late hyperfluorescence. FNAC neck masses showed papillary carcinoma of thyroid.Differential diagnosis of APMPPE and choroidal metastasis made.Observation without intervention led to partial resolution of the lesions obviating the need for chorioretinal biopsy. and confirming the former.
Conclusion : APMPPE and choroidal metastasis from papillary thyroid carcinoma are rare presentations .All investigations need to be done before confirming by invasive procedures.
