Randomised prospective study was carried out on 30 pts of 20-60 age group undergoing optical PK. Gp 1 included 15 post-op cases of PK put on pred acetate 1% e/d QID for 12 weeks, later tapered to TDS for 24 weeks. Gp 2 included 15 post-op cases of PK put on pred acetate 1% e/d QID along with 0.05% cyclosporine e/d QID for 12 weeks, then both tapered to BD dose for 24 weeks. Patients were followed up & assessed for graft rejection. Corneal transparency, stromal oedema & neovascularisation were indicators of graft rejection. Scores were given for each parameter. Graft rejection rate was calculated taking into account graft transparency.
Results-On first post-op day most of the pts in both gps had almost same VA of 1/60 or HMCF. At 12 weeks 33.33% pts in both gps had BCVA of 5/60. At the end of 6 months 6 pts(40%) in gp 1 showed graft rejection whereas in gp 2,3 pts(20%) showed rejection. Overall rejection rate after 6 months was 30%.
