PURPOSE: To analyse outcomes of Amniotic Membrane Transplant with low dose (0.01%) intraoperative MMC in pterygium surgery. METHODS: Prospective descriptive interventional study of 30 patients with progressive pterygium who underwent complete ophthalmic examination and were taken up for pterygium surgery with intraoperative MMC (0.01 %) followed by amniotic membrane transplant. Postoperative outcomes were assessed at 1 week, 1 month and 3 months. RESULTS: At 3 months,13 patients had an improvement in BCVA by 1 or 2 lines.18 patients showed a statistically significant improvement in keratometric astigmatism.9 patients developed pyogenic granuloma and none of the patients developed complications like dellen formation, scleral melt or diplopia. 4 patients developed corneal recurrence and 1 conjunctival recurrence. CONCLUSION: We conclude that amniotic membrane graft with low dose of MMC(0.01%) is an effective technique to reduce complications and prevent recurrences in pterygium surgery.
