The surgical correction of eyes without adequate capsular support – present a difficult management problem
AIM: To evaluate the technique, efficacy, and safety of retropupilary iris-claw IOLs implantation in cases with inadequate capsular support.
Method:case series:21 eyes
inclusion-subluxated or dislocated lens with poor vision or diplopia
surgery-lens removal & retro-pupillary iris fixated IOL implantation
Result: outcome measure- pre-op &post-op BCVA & post-op complications.
21 eyes operated & gained BCVA between 6/12 to 6/24.
1 child had dislocated IOL following trauma but successfully reenclaved.1 had iris pigment dispersion.3 had oval pupil.
At end of 6 months – IOLs -wellcentered,pupil was regular,the eye was quiet. No major complications
Conclusion: retro-pupillary IFIOL is good alternative in cases lacking capsular support. It is easy to perform and has the advantages of a true posterior chamber implantation with a low intra and post-operative risk profile.
