Introduction: Monocular elevation deficiency is a term denoting the congenital deficiency of monocular elevation that is equal in adduction and abduction. We wanted to review additional clinical features.
METHODS:
We retrieved data from EMR ,reviewed and analysed.
RESULTS:
Of the 39 patients 20(%) male and 19(%) female, 21 RE and 18 LE,26(66.5%) good and 13(33%) poor bells,7 patients underwent Knapp procedure, 10 patients underwent inferior rectus recession, and for 10 patients a combined procedure was performed. Ptosis correction done using 13(33.3%) levator resection,15 (38%) Postoperative orthotropia 31(79.5%) ,hypotropia seen in 5(12%) eyes. Cosmetic correction excellent in 11(28%),good in 23(59%) and poor in 5(12.5%). Significant difference was not found with type of surgical procedure, FDT or residual SR movement.
Conclusion:Though MEDS is a difficult condition we may achieve better results on stepwise management.
