Aim: Does visual outcome correlate with the photoreceptor inner segment/outer segment (IS/OS) layer status in patients with macular edema(ME)Methods: We obtained simultaneous visual acuity(V/A) and optical coherence tomography (OCT) of patients with ME using a spectral-domain (SD) OCT. SD OCT recorded before & after treatment & central thickness, IS, & OS were measured. The IS/OS ratio was calculated, & the data were analyzed using SPSS22.Results: 48 eyes,21 M and 27 F; 27 had CME, & 10 eyes had diffuse ME. Median central subfield thickness was 462 ± 150.3 μm. 8 (16.7%), 11 (22.9%), and 29 (60.4%) eyes had venous occlusion, post-cataract CME, & Diabetic ME, respectively. A significant difference between pre & post-treatment vision (p=0.001). Pre and post treatment IS, OS, & IS/OS ratio with t test (p=0.0).The presenting vision differed significantly according to the IS/OS ratio (p=0.010).Conclusion: IS/OS ratio is not significantly correlated with final V/A following treatment for ME.
