OBJECTIVE:
To evaluate the success rate of conjunctival autograft transplantation using autologous serum for pterygium.
MATERIAL AND METHOD:
Patients with pterygium underwent excision of the pterygium followed conjunctival autograft transplantation using autologous serum. On follow up the patients were examined with slit lamp biomicroscopy, the size and colour of the graft measured. Retrospective data was retrived and analysed by SPSS 23.
RESULTS:
Of the 49 patients reviewed, 24 men and 25 women.The mean age 43.86 years. The mean follow-up 32.38 days. 1(2%) eye had recurrent pterygium. There was no significant co relationship of recurrence with the size of head of pterygium, amount of intra op anaesthetic drops used and size of the graft.
CONCLUSION:
Conjunctival autograft transplantation with autologous serum is a cost effective, safe, easy and efficacious procedure for management of pterygium.
