Objective: The study aimed to know ophthalmology resident doctors’ perception of their teaching programmes(prog) and methods used in it to help formulation of a well-structured teaching prog for. Methods: We investigated resident doctors’ perceptions of their teaching prog . Pre-tested questionnaires were used to survey residents. We examined mean number of procedures (outpatient, diagnostic and surgical) they had experienced, as well as edu and research activities. Data were gathered from 45 residents from 30 institutions. Results:Large number of residents felt that their prog were not comprehensive, with only 40% ready to practise comprehensive ophthalm at the end of the training prog. There was a discrepancy between surg performed by resident doctors and their perception of number needed to master those surg. Edu and research activities were found to be inconsistent . Conclusion: Hence, according to resident doctors, there is a need to improve and standardise residency prog.
