Introduction: Macular edema an important cause of reduced vision following cataract surgery. We aim to compare the BCVA after uncomplicated Manual Small Incision Cataract Surgery and Phacoemulsification in normal eyes.
Method:In this retroprospective review; pre op history, thorough ocular examination & OCT of patients who underwent cataract surgery were recorded; In post-op, patients with Snellen’s BCVA 6/6 included & their slit lamp examination and OCT done on each f’up. Data was retrieved and analysed using SPSS22 .Post op (3rd month) BCVA was compared with preop BCVA who underwent cataract surgery( SICS or Phacoemulsification)by single experienced surgeon.
Results:Of 262 eyes,90(34%) eyes underwent SICS &l72 (66%)underwent phacoemulsification. 67(74 %) & 142 (82%) eyes attained postop (3rd month) BCVA 6/6 from SICS & Phaco group respectively. ( p value- 0.072)
Conclusion: No significant variation in preop & postop 3rd month BCVA based on type of cataract surgery.(SICS vs PHACO).
