Aim: To compare the final visual outcome among subgroups with open globe injuries according to Birmingham Eye Trauma Terminology (BETTS).
Setting: Tertiary eye care center at the intersection of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan states in western-central India.
Methods: Patients presenting with traumatic cataract following ocular injury between January 2003 and December 2009 enrolled. Information regarding demographic and ocular trauma was collected through the pre-tested World Eye Trauma Registry form for the first visit and follow-up.
Specific information was collected for groups who had either globe rupture or penetrating injury, as defined by the BETT classification. Data entry and analysis was performed to compare final visual outcome data among the two groups.
Outcome Measures: Final visual outcome and complications
Results: Our cohort consisted of 687 patients with traumatic cataracts. There were 496(72.2) eyes with open globe ocular injuries and 191 (27.8%)
