Aim: Vital signs during cataract surgery studied
Methods: Fifty patients with all types of cataract were recruited. Vital signs recorded using pulse oximeter and respiratory rates supervised. Minimum and maximum values analysed statistically
Results: Mean age was 61.12 (±9.99). Baseline pulse rate showed 133% and 141% increase during capsulorrhexis. Baseline and systolic pressures during block ranged from 104-208 with 100% increase and 115-201 with 75% increase. Baseline diastolic pressures showed 118% and 102% increase during nucleus delivery and cortical clean up with 155% increase in respiratory rate during AC inflation. Oxygen saturation (p <0.05) at baseline, during tunnel construction, capsulorrhexis, cortical clean up and sub-conjunctival injection with Cohen’s d of 0.41 revealed significance. Conclusion: Oxygen saturation revealed significant statistical difference. Hence to be considered in cardiopulmonary status and in patients with post-operative unexplained visual loss
