Methods: A prospective study of 279 behign tumours in and around the eyelid. Collected demographic data including age, gender, and occupation,systemic ailments, duration, location and size, progression, recurrence, treatment and outcome of benign tumours. Clinically/ histologically diagnosed benign tumours included while malignant lesions excluded.The clinical profile was then analysed
Result: A total of 279 patients studied with average age 35.3 years, female preponderance in 64.5%. Infective lesions like Hordeolum internum, chalazion, papilloma, warts were commonest in 81.7% had association with seborrhea, solar lesions like solar keratosis, skin tags with sunlight exposure seen in 7.2%, congenital lesions like dermoid cyst, epidermal cyst in 7.2%, depositive lesions like Xanthelesma in 2.5% and others 8.6%.
Conclusion: such studies on large scale would be extremely beneficial for the practicing ophthalmologists and the training residents and also for public health-care planning.
