Purpose-To compare the foveal choriodal thickness in patients of Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP) with healthy controls and demonstrate its correlation with visual acuity.
Method–In a prospective study 22 eyes of 16 clinically diagnosed cases of RP were assessed for choroidal thickness at fovea and at 8 degrees nasal and temporal to fovea using spectralis optical coherence tomography during the period of Jun 2015- Mar 2016.The visual acuity was recorded. The choroidal thickness of patients were compared to 22 eyes of healthy age matched controls.
Results-The mean foveal choroidal thickness was significantly less in patients of RP as compared to age matched controls (p<0.05) .Also foveal choroidal thickness is lesser in patients with lower visual acuity and longer duration of disease. Conclusion-the foveal choroidal thickness is lesser in patients of RP compared to healthy individuals and thinner foveal choroid may correspond to lower visual acuity.
