PURPOSE:Ocular manifestations of haematological disorders may present initially or during the disease course. Ocular findings also may occur as a consequence of treatment of these disorders. We report a case series of ophthalmic manifestations of haematological disorders and their management.
METHODS:To report the ocular abnormalities in 6 patients with various haematological diseases.
RESULTS :Spectrum of diseases identified included Essential thrombocythemia, Waldenstrom’s Macroglobulinemia, Megaloblastic anemia, Acute promyelocytic leukemia, Polycythemia vera and Chronic myeloid leukemia. Bilateral retinopathy in the form of disc edema, macular edema, disc pallor,retinal haemorrhages, and venous changes were noted.
CONCLUSION: A thorough systemic examination including relevant investigations is mandatory in all cases of patients diagnosed with haematological diseases as early detection and prompt initiation of treatment can prevent vision loss and systemic morbidity and mortality.
