Aim: To evaluate morphological patterns of VMIA on SD-OCT in relation with various stages of DR& CMT.
Method: Prospective study of 261 eyes of 149 treatment naïve diabetics categorized as Groups- 1:No DR(88eye), 2:NPDR(92eye) & 3:PDR(81eye).VMIA was characterized as vitreoretinal traction(foveal/extrafoveal/peripapillary) &epiretinal membranes(partially/globally adherent).
Results: Prevalence of VMIA was 17%(15/88), 33.6%(31/92) & 55.5%(45/81) in groups 1,2 & 3 respectively with a statistically increasing frequency with increasing severity of DR(p<0.001). Globally adherent ERM was most commonly observed VMIA in all eyes(22.9%) while extrafoveal and peripapillary traction were seen exclusively in Group 3. Presence of VMIA was significantly associated with increased CMT irrespective of DR staging. Conclusion:Increased frequency of VMIA associated with increased CMT are seen with evolving stages of DR which supports the role of vitreous in the emergence as well as progression DR and DME
