In this Case : control, Observational study we are comparing inner, outer and total retinal thickness (IR/OR/TRT) in type 2 diabetic (T2DM) patients with no retinopathy, with healthy subjects using spectral domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) in Indian population. 97 Cases and 98 healthy controls were included. IRT, ORT and TRT was measured in nine macular subfields following the early treatment diabetic retinopathy study (ETDRS) template for each individual. The mean age and duration of T2DM were 56.79 and 5.56 years respectively. Significant differences were found in IRT and TRT of perifoveal temporal field of ETDRS grid between Cases and controls, with thickness being less in Cases than in controls (P- 0.032 and 0.009, respectively).
Conclusion : IRT and TRT in temporal region of the macula in Indian T2DM individuals was lesser, in absence of any visible DR changes, compared to healthy subjects.
