Dr.NISHANTHINI KARUPPIAH
Purpose
To evaluate outcomes of capsular tension ring (CTR) implantation in glaucoma patients during cataract surgery.
Method
Retrospective review of 96 glaucoma patients (Group A) vs 107 controls (Group B) who had undergone cataract surgery with CTR implantation :Jan 2008-Dec 2016.
Results
Preoperative intraocular pressure (IOP) was higher in Group A: (16.0 mm Hg vs 14.2 mm Hg, p=0.02). Rates of pre-operative subluxation or type of cataract were similar. At the final visit, Group A had higher mean IOP (15.5 mm Hg vs 13.8 mm Hg P<0.01)). Log MAR visual acuity was similar in both groups (0.25 Group A vs 0.35 Group B P =0.51). Although posterior capsular opacification was noted less frequently in Group A, capsulotomy rates were similar between groups (57% vs 48%, P= 0.22). IOL decentration was similar in both groups (8.0% Group A vs 5.1% Group B, P =0.44). Conclusion CTR implantation in glaucoma patients did not adversely affect outcomes of surgery.
