Title: Awareness of assessing RAPD by inverse in ocular trauma patients amongst non ophthalmologists
Material and methods: Prospective, descriptive. Study population: Consecutive ocular trauma patients presenting to casualty department of a tertiary care hospital. Casualty duty doctors initially evaluated patients, a sizeable population being non-ophthalmologists. Data on evaluation of RAPD by inverse in patient’s records was noted. After initial 50 patients, all casualty duty doctors were sensitized towards importance of evaluating for RAPD by inverse. Data for next 50 patients after sensitization was noted.
RESULTS: A clinically and statistically significant improvement in evaluation of RAPD by inverse in ocular trauma patients was noted.
CONCLUSION: A lecture cum demonstration should be held for all non-ophthalmologists manning casualty on a periodic basis. This will help reduce morbidity in patients suffering from ocular trauma
