METHOD and MATERIALS: 60 eyes of 46 patients were randomised for aspheric IOLs Tecnis (AMO) and Acrysoft IQ (ALCON), based on patient’s choice for IOL power. Postoperative examination was carried out including snellen’s visual acuity, photopic and mesopic contrast sensitivity, colour vision and defocus tolerance.
RESULTS: There was no significant difference
between the two groups for BCVA. Both Photopic and Mesopic contrast sensitivity testing showed the Tecnis lens to perform better than Acrysoft IQ with the statistically significant difference (p<0.05, t stat > t critical). No significant difference was found for colour vision and defocus tolerance.
CONCLUSIONS: Both Tecnis and Acrysoft IQ are comparable for snellen’s visual acuity, colour vision and defocus tolerance. Technis performs better regarding contrast in both dim and illuminated conditions.
