Aim: To analyze the Ultrawide field fluorescein angiography (UWFA, OptosĀ®) characteristics of rhegmatogenous retinal detachments (RRD).
Method: Case series. UWFA features of 10 patients of macula-off RRD were analyzed.
Results: Vascular dilatation and tortuosity, blockage of choroidal fluorescence and peripheral perivascular staining or leak were seen in all RRDs. Other features included peripheral capillary nonperfusion (CNP, 7 eyes), vascular loop formation (4 eyes), optic disc leak (4 eyes), petaloid leak at macula (2 eyes) and neovascularization elsewhere (1 eye). Lattices showed window defects and there was absence of dye transit in the anterior flaps of large breaks. The torn vessels at the margin of the posterior flap of a break showed multiple point leakages of dye.
Conclusions: Temporal perivascular staining and leak, CNP and vascular tortuosity are common features of RRDs. Peripheral CNP may explain neovascularization of retina or iris seen in chronic retinal detachments.
