Purpose. To study the incidence and etiology of red eyes during spring-summer season at tertiary centre. Methods. Detailed history, examination and appropriate investigations were done in all the patients presented with red eyes from March to june2013. Results . Out of total patients 14% presented with red eyes. Conjunctivitis is the most common cause of red eye 40%. Certain causes are under diagnosed like ophthalmomyiasis(14) ,filariasis(03) ,dacryolithiasis(o3) ,and associated systemic diseases and syndromes(12) which are not ruled out routinely. Conclusions Red eye is usually under diagnosed but over treated condition .A wide spectrum of disease processes may present as a red eye, ranging from benign self-limiting etiologies to serious vision-threatening ones. The ophthalmologist must be adept at recognizing “red flags” from the history and detail examination that necessitate immediate treatment.
