Globe rupture occurs when the integrity of the outer membranes of the eye is disrupted by blunt or penetrating trauma. It is an ophthalmologic emergency & requires definitive and prompt management by an ophthalmologist.
A case of posterior globe rupture with prolapsing vitreous caused by stone injury presented to our hospital. After multiple operations, Vision of patient improved to 6/60 with silicone oil refraction after 6 weeks.
A second case had a posterior scleral rupture on temporal side with total hyphema following a RTA. After 6 weeks of multistage procedure, his central vision was limited due large macular scar but peripheral vision was reasonably good.
Ocular surgeries, especially those involving posterior globe rupture pose a surgical challenge for the ophthalmologist. Multiple staged procedures may be required. Despite the severity of the presenting injury, a reasonable amount of ambulatory vision can be salvaged using modern surgical techniques and adjuncts
