Endophthalmitis continues to be a nightmare despite technical advancements.In-efficient sterilization processes continue to be one of the most important reasons for post cataract surgery endophthalmitis in our country. This course teaches the basic concepts of cleaning, sterilizing, storing of the surgical instrumentsusing video and photo images. The complexities of sterilizing hollow instruments like phaco headpiece, tubing, cannula, vitrector will be highlighted .The principles, indications, technique and protocols for both steam & chemical sterilization will be taught. Choosing the right type of sterilizers and using appropriate parameters for effective sterilization will be highlighted. Special emphasis will be given on the protocols for documentation, monitoring & validation of sterilization procedures.Course Objective: To teach the attendees the preferred practice patterns related to sterilization protocols for ophthalmic surgical instruments and how to avoid the common pitfalls
