According to World Health Organization (WHO) report, India accounts for 25% of the world’s total blind population. For treatment of ocular problems we need at the least, 25,000 ophthalmologists by the year 2020, which would require growth at the rate of 300 additional training slots per year. We have two major problems in order to meet the need eye health care in India, one is a lesser number of an ophthalmologist and another is unstandardized & the poor quality of residency training program. In this IC we will discuss the availability, lacunae, facilities and different methods to increase the standards of residency programs or courses available in India.
