Aim – To evaluate the feasibility and efficacy of SLET, in eyes with unilateral limbal stem cell deficiency (LSCD) following chemical injury, in a semi-urban location.
Methodology – Retrospective, interventional case series.
Patients with unilateral limbal stem cell deficiency (LSCD) following chemical injury, were included and underwent Simple Limbal Stem Cell Transplantation (SLET).
Outcome measure – Ease of performing SLET and improvement in corneal clarity, LSCD and best corrected visual acuity (BCVA)
Results – Three eyes of three patients were included. M:F ratio – 2:1. Mean age – 18.66 years. Preop BCVA was Finger Counting in all three eyes. Mean follow up – 4 months. All surgeries were performed with great ease. Postop, BCVA was 20/80 and 20/60, with improvement in corneal clarity. In one patient, BCVA remained unchanged, with partial improvement in LSCD.
Conclusion – SLET is an effective and easily performed treatment modality for unilateral LSCD in semi-urban locations.
