The current trends in etiology of conjunctivitis and it’s antimicrobial sensitivity must be updated to make a choice of initial antibiotic therapy in children. The study aims to identify bacteria causing conjunctivitis in children < 2 years of age and to analyse their antimicrobial sensitivity. METHOD- 40 children with conjunctivitis were studied. Sociodemographic and clinical data were collected. Conjunctival swabs were collected, gram staining and culture on MacConkey’s, chocolate and blood agar was done.In 92.5% culture was positive. The antimicrobial sensitivitypattern of isolates were determined. RESULT-Staphylococcus aureus 90%, streptococcus pneumonia 40% were confirmed pathogen. The bacteria were susceptibleto gentamicine 90% ciprofloxacin and ofloxacin 80%. CONCLUSION- Coagulase positive staphylococcusaureus was the most frequent bacteria isolated from the conjunctiva of the patient and most of them were sensitive to aminoglycosides and fluroquinolones.
