PURPOSE :To study the clinical picture,pattern,pre and post treatment cytology & management in patients of allergic conjunctivitis.
METHODS: A hospital based prospective study of 70 patients of allergic conjunctivities seen from january 2015 -2017
RESULTS: 74.28% were males.Mean age group 1-10 years in 68.57%.Chronic perennial disease seen in 57.14% cases.Bulbar variety in 71.42% patients.The commonest symptom in 85.33% cases was itching.Persistent disease over 20 years of age was seen in 7.14% patients. All patients showed fall in eosinophil count on cytology after 2 months of treatment with no complications.
CONCLUSION: Allergic conjunctivitis is most common in1st decade of life,in males,perennial is the common variety & itching is the most common complaint.Olopatadine showed good results in mild to moderate variety as opposed to tacrolimus in severe allergic conjunctivitis.Conjunctival eosinophils can be used as an evidence for diagnosis & management of allergic conjunctivitis.
