Purpose:To report clinical profile of patients of recurrent ocular toxoplasmosis (OT)
Method:Retrospective analysis of 11 patients with recurrent OT between 2010-2015
Results:Prevalence of recurrent OT was 14.2%.Mean age of patients was 35.45 years. History of contacts with pets, chronic use of steroid, uncontrolled diabetes and pancreatitis were the confounding factors.Recurrence at scar margin was seen in 9 patients,2 developed new lesion adjacent to the main lesion.Extrafoveal, juxtafoveal lesions were noted in 6 and 4 patients respectively.Mean time to resolution of recurrence was 51.36 days.Mean duration of recurrence was 294days.10 patients were treated with a combination therapy of sulfamethoxazole, trimethoprim and clindamycin.Recurrence in 1 patient was managed with intravitrial clindamycin injection.
Conclusions:Recurrence is common in OT and difficult to manage.Regular follow up,rapid diagnosis and timely institution of anti-toxoplasma therapy lead to favourable outcome.
