Aim: Early bi-canalicular silicon intubation in patients with failed DCR using endoscopic visualisation
Method:Thirteen cases of dacryocystitis were reviewed between Jan 2013 and April 2017 to evaluate success of endoscopic Dacrycystorhinostomy (DCR) and external DCR. Five patients underwent Endoscopic DCR and 8 patients underwent external DCR. Ten patients had resolution of symptoms following primary DCR. One patient with failed DCR had a double turbinate which was responsible for the failure Three patients had bi-canalicular stents inserted due to persistence of watering three months following primary surgery. In the event of failed DCR a combined approach using endoscopic visualization and probing and insertion of the silicon tube was done. The stents were removed after follow up of 3 months with resolution of symptoms.
Conclusion: Failed DCR surgeries can be effectively intubated using bicanlicular silicon tubes in the early post operative period following DCR surgery.
