Aim : To report 3 cases of sweat gland carcinoma eyelids
Methods : All 3 cases had undergone initial excision biopsy without margin clearance due to their benign appearance, later under went wide excision with histopathology examination using immunohistochemistry along with systemic evaluation.
Results : All 3 cases did not have any features of malignancy. All 3 cases were atleast once excised elsewhere with no reports of margin clearance. One case diagnosed elsewhere as hidradenoma was found to be endocrine mucin-producing sweat gland carcinoma on re-examination of original pathology. 2 cases were mucinous carcinoma. None had lymph node involvement. One case had tubulovillous adenoma with high grade dysplasia of colon and spindle cell tumor of skin.
Conclusion: Sweat gland carcinomas tend to appear benign. It has a high recurrence rate and requires wide excision biopsy. Systemic evaluation helps to rule out primary malignancy of other organ especially gastrointestinal system.
